    Pros

Best environment ever. Teaches great communication skills. It's truly the greatest job I've ever had. The shared love for pop culture brings staff together organically. Inclusion and diversity are integral and cherished components. The customers (mostly lol) are super wonderful- all stores have a few mean customers here and there. It's always great when you can listen to music all day at work.

    Cons

The pay. It is my absolute belief that the company knows how much employees love working at HT and therefore continue to "pay in passion" rather than increasing wages. The company has enough wealth and sustainability in the market to roll out a wage increase plan, even if it is over the course of time; they choose not to. We hire everyone coming in as a sales associate at minimum wage- they get 4 to 16 hours a week. There has never been such thing as a full time sales associate; that is reserved solely for management (2-3 mgrs per store). Raises are sporadic and highly uncommon (ranging from 5 cents to 20 cents; maybe more but I've never seen that unless it was for management positions). Minimal growth available to most employees. Upward moves in the store have no real system of calculation which lead to mass confusion and resentment amongst staff.

    Feels like family

    Pros

I have been working at Hottopic for almost two years. This is a job when I go in I look forward to working with my coworkers and the customers that come in. We all feel like family, management is very understanding of what you need and will work with your schedule, be it another job or taking classes. The 40% (50% during a week in December) off employee discount on top of other discounts is amazing! This is a great job if you are trying to get a little more money or are a college student.

    Cons

No health benefits if you are part time, minimum wage for any location you are at, key holders only make a dollar more than sales associate, no vacation time for part time workers, no option for full time employment status if you are a sales associate.

    Overworked and Underpaid

    Pros

40% off discount on almost all product, on top of sales. Reimbursement up to I think $25 on concerts and conventions. Pronouns will get used properly and the staff is very open and accepting. You'll get to impact people's lives and get paid to infodump / talk about your interests.

    Cons

Management attitudes affect the whole staff, everyone is severely underpaid for the amount of work needed, though May 1 when the minimum wage raises for associates the job will be reasonable. Higher management said managers will eventually get a raise as well. ...Eventually. No news on how much. I have enough job responsibilities I should be making at least $17/hour. Good Luck.

  7. Pros

Creative workspace, manager at the time very kind and cared for employees Discount is great

    Cons

Minimum wage needs to be raised *ongoing issue* Customer service is sadly undermined and not taken seriously by higher ups it is very demanding so patience and kindness is required by all fellow workers

  8. Former Employee, more than 1 year

    Pros

It was friendly work environment with freedom of expression

    Cons

Lack of communication (and miscommunication) with management and between management. The pay is minimum wage while working 6 days in row. Theres also no room to move up in the company at this particular location.

    Pros

Nice environment, good coworkers made the experience very pleasant Employee discount was really good and incentivizes you to put your money back into the store

    Cons

The pay was really low, only got up to 10 an hour a few months ago because everyone was quitting and they couldn't hire any one else on for minimum wage.

    Pros

    - amazing co-workers - fairly easy starting out - great to learn how to use a register - decent hours (except for when you have to stay incredibly late on a school night because the shift before you didn't clean but that's anywhere) - very good about giving breaks - i personally had amazing managers that were so understanding with my personal needs(college, being sick, etc.)

    Cons

    - can't hang out with coworkers outside of work - pay isn't the best but for a first job, minimum wage is fine
